Welcome to The Legal Lounge, where you'll hear from Amanda and her team of lawyers from Lanyon Bowdler Solicitors talking about many aspects of law in England and Wales. During the series you'll hear from special guests, industry experts and local charities.
In this episode, clinical negligence lawyers Lucy Small and Phoebe Blythin explain how, whilst not policy across the NHS as of yet, the introduction of Martha's rule has come about. Martha lost her life at the age of 13 after developing sepsis following an accident. Martha's death could have been prevented.
Martha's parents have fought for patients and their families to now have the right for an urgent second opinion to improve patient safety, no matter their age.
